The Anti Money Laundering Network's training division has announced a two-day training event in Lagos, Nigeria on 14 / 15 May 2008. Includes USA PATRIOT Act and Bank Secrecy Act.

Day One: How money launderers use retail and commercial banks.
Day Two: USA PATRIOT Act and US Bank Secrecy Act compliance and risk management.

Day One: How money launderers use retail and commercial banks.

Money laundering is about much more than money. And money laundering techniques have moved on a long way from bags of cash being deposited over the counter at bank branches.

In this course, you will learn some of the techniques that money launderers use to trick you into accepting their business, some of the ways they obscure their connection to the funds and some of the ways in which they re-accumulate their wealth and invest it.

Day Two: USA PATRIOT Act and US Bank Secrecy Act compliance and risk management.

Your operations in the USA are subject to US law, and breaches can be very expensive. In addition to the risk of prosecution, “civil penalties” of millions of dollars can be levied with conditions as to your management structure including orders to replace or demote managers.

And your non-US operations are also indirectly subject to US law via your commercial relationships.

In this course, you will learn what US law requires, what the regulatory regime entails and principles of compliance with case studies of how failures arose and the penalties that banks suffered.

Your course leader:

Nigel Morris-Cotterill, Head, The Anti Money Laundering Network

Nigel Morris-Cotterill was a litigation solicitor for a quarter of a century and formed Silkscreen Limited in 1994 as a specialist compliance and risk management consultancy for money laundering professionals. He has developed counter-money laundering strategies and advised on laws and regulations in many countries and industry sectors.

Nigel created the concept of Risk Values to assess the risk of financial crime presented by customers at the point of sale. He has also developed training strategies and the class-leading Quick To Learn More e-learning programme.

Nigel created and still edits World Money Laundering Report, the only truly global newsletter for counter-money laundering professionals and its online daily news service World Money Laundering Report Online: Daily News with its sister online library World Money Laundering Report Online: Resources.

Nigel wrote the best-selling “How not to be a money launderer,” which in 1995 introduced the concept of risk management into the area of money laundering and terrorist financing.

Nigel is highly regarded as a counter-money laundering strategist and is a commentator of choice for many international media outlets because of his ability to take complex concepts and explain them in a simple and accessible way.

Nigel created the concept of The Financial Crime Forum, a series of interactive events in which delegates take an active part throughout the proceedings.

In this course, he gives delegates the benefit of all of that experience and demonstrates some of the ways in which your bank is at risk and what it can do about it.
